Meet Team MDI
-
Kyle "Drew" Drewniak - SDI/TDI/NAUI Instructor
Drew is MDI’s Principle Instructor, and Excursion Coordinator. To say that MDI would not exist without the passion that Drew brings to the team is an egregious understatement. With over 25 years of experience underwater, Drew’s underwater expertise is only matched by his fun-loving attitude, and desire to pass the information on to his students.
-
Megan Drewniak, CDR USCG - Principle administrator/logician
Another founding member of the team, Megan is an internationally-recognized Divemaster and an avid underwater photographer. The ocean has always been a passion of hers, and has been an integral part of her life. So much so, that she has received a degree in Marine Biology, and has spent 22 years in Active Service for the United States Coast Guard, where she currently stands at the Officer Rank of Commander.
-
Sean Nightingale - Principle Lensman/Graphic Deisgner
Sean is the team’s Principle Cinematographer and Graphic Designer. Including holding the revered achievement of being the person on the team who created the iconic MDI Octopus logo. Sean is an underwater professional with over 30 years of diving experience, where he operates with an “on it, in it, under it” attitude.
-
Olivia Drewniak - Principle Oceanic Life Advocate
Olivia is the team’s primary advocate for oceanic wildlife and principle conservationist. She is critical to organizing our stewardship programs and keeping the team up to date on current local issues and outcomes. Her passion is all things ocean, and plans to pursue educational opportunities focused on protecting marine megafauna, including the North Atlantic Right Whale.
-
Aaron Karmes, MD - Principle Tech Divemaster
Aaron is the Team’s technical equipment guru, where he brings the same passion to dive gear, that he brings to his medical career. He is also a great source of info for all things concerning the physics and physiology of diving.
-
Jay Wheeler - NAUI Assistant Instructor/DIvemaster
Jay is MDI’s assistant instructor, and our Marine Ecology enthusiast. He brings a vast amount of scientific diving experience to the team, and brings an attitude of “Safety through Education” to all dive sessions.
-
Pierce "Pierseidon" Kempkes - Principle Website Designer
An aspiring dive professional, Pierce is one of the newer members of the team, bringing his technical knowledge to maintain the team’s dynamic website. He is preparing for his sabbatical in the Outer Banks of North Carolina, where he is slated to work for the Department of the Interior, maintaining and sharing his passion for ocean conservation with the general public at Cape Hatteras National Seashore.
At MDI, we are very proud of our core team membership. Working synergistically, we
are able to provide the highest quality of care and attention to our educational
programs, environmental stewardship projects, and diving excursions
